About
Us
Youth
Afloat is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association, approved
by the British Canoe Union and is also accredited by the Mountain
Biking Instructor Award Scheme. It also holds an Adventure Activities
Licence (confirmation of which may be obtained by telephoning
01222 755715).
The
centres are staffed by qualified and experienced full time activity
staff.
Activities
Youth
Afloat carries out a wide range of activities including dinghy
sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, bellboating, raft building,
orienteering, archery mountain biking, and team building activities.
All
participants MUST be over the age of 6 years.
Bookings
and Consent
Groups
or Individuals can either book a single activity or a range of
activities dependent on personal preference. Please contact us
to discuss your requirements.
We
will only allow youngsters to participate in activities if they
have prior written consent from a parent of guardian on a Youth
Afloat designated form.
A
nominal charge is made for each youngster and donations are invited
towards the cost of running the trust.
Groups
Each
of our Centres caters for all types of groups including school,
youth, uniformed organisations, cubs, guides, and scouts to name
a few. Most groups are small ranging between 6-12 participants.
However we can cater for larger groups by prior arrangement.
Those
with Disabilities
This
is our forte, and we can provide a large selection of both water
and land based activities.
We
boast that,we have
one of the best disabled facilities in the region with excellent
access to both the building and jetty areas. There are purpose
built toilet and showering facilities as well as lift access and
disabled parking. We also have specialised water sports equipment,
a hoist and a floating pontoon for access dinghies. Please contact
the Centre if you have any special requirements.
No
youngster is excluded because of his or her race, religion, colour
or creed. Youth Afloat does not charge for its activities, but
asks for donations to help fund the running costs of its centres.
The trust relies solely on donations and the dedication of voluntary
helpers. If you feel that you could help either by making a financial
donation or giving us some of your time, please contact one of
our centres.
Clothing/Equipment
Our
Centres are well equipped with heated changing rooms, hot showers,
toilets, and classroom facilities. There is a range of personal
equipment including wetsuits, waterproofs, buoyancy aids and helmets.
All
of our equipment is maintained to a very high standard and is
regularly inspected not only by our own staff but by several outside
regulatory bodies.
